The weather was amazing, the shots were challenging and, as always the company was the best! The Treasure Valley Bowhunter Spring Bear Shoot was great again this year... the Backcountry Boss crew tells us why:
Thoughts from Eli Rooney:
The shoot this last weekend was exciting and challenging. For the last 6 years, this is one of the more popular shoots in the area with a growing number of participants.

This year's crew definitely upped their game with the target setups.
The shots were a little further or more diverse (not all targets were 20 yards) giving a good taste of many different distances. My favorite aspect of this shoot was the inclination factor. So many of the shots tested your skills to judge distance because of uphill and downhill angles. Not only that, but the terrain is notorious for giving lost ground across a slough that is easily misjudged. This made the shoot come down to mental strength!
Overall scores posted were definitely not up high, which seemed to give a more balanced feel to the shooters of different backgrounds. The open class was tested by movable sights on the exact distance due to the slower velocity of their arrows (tends to be the nature of this class). The Bowhunter class, with the exception of a 5 scoring a 0, was at a greater advantage this weekend for speed being by their side as the distance was so difficult to estimate.
I would also like to point out the camaraderie that is obviously apparent through Backcountry Boss. We see more support of this website with every shoot, and it's a great avenue for people of like-minded ideas and interests to find a common ground. Sportsmanship blooms from the laughter or compliments that ensue when a stranger wearing a Backcountry Boss shirt congratulates or rejoices with another stranger in the same shirt, that he/she might not have done otherwise. This is the common ground we hope to instill in our hunting/shooting/outdoor community as a whole.

This shoot is an amazing one to test your skills whether it be for hunting or just target. It challenges your abilities as well as brings out the faults in your equipment. Spring Bear by TVB definitely shows who came prepared and those that didn't. The joy of the sport is that we know that next year or even the next shoot, everyone will be coming back with a vengeance, better prepared to put themselves to the ultimate test.
Keep shooting and may your arrows fly true!
Eli
Thoughts from Shellie McCarthy:

Treasure Valley Bowhunter Archery Club never disappoint at their annual SPRING BEAR 3D shoot!
Year after year this crew puts on a fun yet challenging 3D archery shoot. I love how this club caters to archers at all skill levels. It was great to see the new moving pop up targets, money dot shots, fun kids course, and a diverse 40 target 3D course.
I am always happy to see the families and groups of friends that attend this event.
As an Eagle Resident, I have attended this shoot for years and it is so exciting to see the numbers of archers increase.
Little throwback pic from 2010:

This archery course was full of challenging fun shots. For compound bow archers it is critical to utilize their sight bubble when shooting steep uphill and downhill shots.
It is so easy to skip this step. Be sure to draw your bow when level and bend at the waist and hips to angle your shot! There are many great articles out there on angled shots that can give you tips that fit your shooting style and bow speed.
It is also important for compound bow archers to get your 3rd axis set on your sight. Visit Eli at Dead on Archery to help you with this critical adjustment.
Most importantly, make plans to get our fiends and family for our next local 3D shoot. This sport is an amazing opportunity to bring archers together and make some fantastic memories doing what we love.
NOCK IT, LOCK IT, AND ROCK IT.
Shellie
Thoughts from Rylee:
Our youngest shooter, Rylee had this to say about the Spring Bear Shoot:
I liked the shoot.
The kids course had lots of different targets. I liked the 2 elk best.
When you climb the mountains on the adult course it gives you lots of exercise!
I loved seeing my friends who shoot too!
I love bow shooting.
Rylee
*Rylee took first place in the PeeWee Girls with Sight class on both days of the shoot. She improved her score by 20 points on day 2!

Congrats to our Backcountry Boss family for such an amazing showing at the Treasure Valley Bowhunter Spring Bear Shoot and thanks to all of you who purchased Backcountry Boss gear....welcome to the family!!
