Shellie McCarthy Kuna, Idaho

 

Growing up in North Idaho’s Silver Valley I learned to enjoy and respect an active outdoor lifestyle.  I moved to Idaho’s Capitol City to attend Boise State and compete there running the 800 meters for the Bronco’s Track Program while my brother, Brian, was there playing basketball.  It was at Boise State I met my husband, Joe, who was also a student athlete playing football.  My Relationship with Joe was built on morning duck hunts and camping trips hunting deer, elk and turkey’s.   Hunting the Idaho Mountains was only interrupted by fishing its large and diverse waterway systems.  In 1988, shortly after our marriage, Joe and I bought our first compound bows and I developed my love of archery.

 

While I still enjoy shooting my shotguns and rifles my bow is my true love.  My bow gives me the ability to shoot all year long and a way to focus my mind away from the daily stresses of work.  I can shoot indoors and in leagues during the winter months when it gets dark early after work, travel in the spring and summer shooting 3D and Field Archery Tournaments, and hunt deer and elk in the fall.  Archery opens up more hunting opportunity than just hunting with a rifle and allows me to hunt elk during September when the sound  of bulls bugling breaks the silence of the warm days and cool nights in the mountains.

 

I  have been lucky enough to live in many areas of Idaho.  Work and life have allowed me to live on the Palouse as well as Idaho’s Clearwater Valley.  I got my guides license for fishing and running boats on the Clearwater River in Orofino than later moved back outside of Boise where I work today managing a physical therapy practice.  My passion involves keeping people healthy and active so they can take advantage of all Idaho has to offer as well a spreading my love of archery to others.  I am excited to share my passion, thoughts, and ideas to help others become a "Backcountry Boss!"
