January fishing on the Clearwater River near Orofino, Idaho has been excellent this year! I had the opportunity to fish with Stott's Fishing Adventures out of Lewiston, Idaho. Our guide Tom took us out on a 21 foot jet boat. Tom knows the river well and we were in the fish first thing in the morning! Of the four of us fishing we hooked 15 and landed 10 steelhead. We were able to keep the 5 hatchery fish and released the natives. The hatchery fish are running 4-5lbs and the natives can easily double that and when they warm up the fight can be intense!
We stayed at the Little Canyon Lodge in Peck, Idaho. The lodge caters to fisherman throughout the year, but is
best known for the pheasant hunting on the Little Canyon Shooting Preserve.
Next year I am hoping to take advantage of the "Cast and Blast:" 2 days fishing combined with a 1 day pheasant hunt with lodging included!
I hope you enjoy the pics....maybe we'll see you on the river next year!
