Last weekend we attended the Idaho State Bowhunter 2014 Jamboree bowshoot in Stanley, Idaho and we had an awesome time! The weather was warm, but not too hot. The ISB team was professional, organized and welcoming which always makes going to a new shoot easy. With that said...what a party!

Who can beat bowshooting during the day, BBQ's and beer in the evening and parties, elk calls and smack talk all night long!

The shooting courses were great! Varied in terrain and shot detail so there was something for every level of shooter. My wife is a beginner with her bow and this was a great first shoot that helped her confidence grow, but also taught her the hard lesson of needing to learn to gauge distance. Arrows were lost and destroyed on the competitive course Sunday.

Here are some highlights from the weekend:

Course E....the terrain was awesome, the shots were challenging! The addition of tree stands on a few of the shots was freakin' awesome!

Rylee represented Dead on Archery well as she took 2nd place in her division (Chicks w/sights) on the kids course Sunday! She is all business when it comes to shooting her bow and she makes me so proud! HUGE thanks to Treasure Valley Bowhunters for putting on a great kids shoot!

This was a tremendously proud moment for me, when Rylee stepped out to participate in her first-ever elk bugling contest. She has been bugling with paper towel tubes since attending her first Elk College two years ago. She is so little, but has such a big presence and is so confident when it comes to anything hunting. She is going to be an amazing hunter and a great conservation advocate as she gets older! Rylee ultimately didn't place in this contest, but she sure made the crowd (and me) smile!

A work in progress.....as always! Course D: long shots, tricky shots, wind. These shoots are the best way to put yourself and your bow in different situations to see how both react and give yourself a great idea of where you need to work and how your equipment needs to be adjusted. Better to find these things out on the course than in the field!

SPOTTED! A fellow bowhuntin' badass sporting some Backcountry Boss gear! NICE!

The day after the shoot we were able to unload the ATV's and explore the wilderness. We found 2 of these large holes into the mountain in addition to the remains of small log cabin. An old gold mining operation I presume. It's fun to explore and appreciate the backcountry, you never know what you're going to find.

By the way, on our way to Stanley we drove through Garden Valley and witnessed the fire still burning in that area. God Bless the men and women wildland firefighters who are risking their lives to keep homes and families safe and reduce the burn area of such fires...you are amazing people and you are greatly appreciated!

37 days to opening day....

Dale
